Italian school and the quiz

Scuola Secondaria "Carducci" is a Middle School situated in the centre of Sicily, an economic disadvantaged region of Italy. The school is situated in a town having a population of 23000 people. Its population is partly involved in agriculture, the rest are employees or occupied in commercial activities. The school has 805 pupils and the range of the age is from 11 to 14. 70% of the children are from low middle class families and in the last few years our school has seen a growing percentage of students coming from other countries both European and extra European countries such as North African nations. Being San Cataldo out of the typical touristy itineraries, our students have very little occasions to be in contact with young people coming from different countries and so to know typical cultural aspects of their life, although our school has always spent a lot of energy to teach them the fundamental values of respect of the diversities and integration. The students in our school obtain very good results at the various contests they take part in, maths and foreign languages and also in national musical competitions since we have some classes that benefit of musical experimentation. Although there is a strong will of preserving traditions, there is also the permanent challenge of modern technology and its specific domain of study. All students study both English and French as foreign languages. Both students and teachers are actively involved in adapting to the newest materials and technologies by using specific national and European programme, designing projects within classes or outside them applying modern teaching-learning methods. There are seminars and debates where topics of large interest are targeted. The School Board, formed by parents, teachers and administration staff representatives, is always incline adopt and implement various innovative social initiatives in the field of social work and non-formal education. The main activities is to create or adopt new psychosocial services for the target group; to provide them with information, counselling and educative activities; to initiate, participate and implement both local and international projects in the field of social work and non-formal education of target group. Taking part to this project would give our students the right vision of what a Citizen in a European dimension should be and it will certainly instil in them the correct vision of their future.

Polish school and the quiz

Zespol Szkol nr 8 Gimnazjum nr 1 im. Marszalka Jozefa Pilsudskiego w Suwalkach, Poland is a lower secondary co-educational state school. It starts at the age of 13 and lasts three years. There are 409 pupils and 39 teachers. We aim to provide an excellent all-round education so that every pupil can achieve their full potential .The mission of our school is developing a passion for learning, capacity for independent thinking, moral values, self-confidence without arrogance, and a broad range of interests that extend beyond the confines of the classroom. We work in partnership with Junior Secondary school in Notodden, Norway – our sistertown and Bransty Primary School in Whitehaven, UK, but this Comenius project will be the first one our school has taken part in. Suwałki is a town in northeastern Poland with 69 331 inhabitants (2012). Until 1999 the town was the capital of Suwalki Voivodeship. Suwalki is located about 30 km from the Lithuanian border. After the peaceful dissolution of the Communist system in Poland in 1989 the city experienced a period of economic difficulties. Most of the city's major factories were inefficient and went bankrupt. However, the creation of the Suwalki Special Economic Zone and the proximity of the Russian and Lithuanian borders opened new possibilities for the local trade and commerce. Still, we have many pupils from families who are socio-economically disadvantaged and their membership in the project would be a priceless experience for them. The role of our school: We will run the project's website, which we will update with up-to date information connected with our project. Together with our Italian partner we will upload the finished films and we will also be responsible for the continuous, as well as final evaluation of our project. At the final meeting in Poland, we will organize evaluate workshop with presentations and a canoe trip in the Lake District area for all our project visitors.

Czech school and our quiz

ZŠ Táborská in Prague is an elementary school educating pupils aged 7 - 16. Our school has a long tradition. It is 106 years old and is a faculty school of Charles University. We are one of the pilot schools who developed the new educational programme for schools in the Czech Republic. Since 2010, the pupils of our school have been involved in a project called “Film-makers”, where they learn how to create films. This project is in English and “eMotion pictures” idea came from here as an opportunity to give our project European value and to motivate the students to improve their language skills. Having partners from Italy, Turkey and Poland would be a priceless opportunity for our students to step closer towards Europe. Our school is well provided for film-making: we have a fully equipped theatre as a part of our building. It includes stage, auditorium, dressing room with costumes, sceneries and audio and light mixing tools. Here we would practice the indoor parts of our films. In our project we also plan to use our library, two ICT classrooms, two gyms and an outside playground, a kitchen for cooking classes, an Art atelier and more. We have a long tradition with international cooperation as we actively take part in eTwinning projects and have already gained three Quality Label Certificates. This will be our third Comenius project ever but the first one, where there will be mainly pupils involved in mobilities. Some of our pupils are really talented little actors and film-makers, however, disadvantaged by their poor family background and cannot afford to take part in global education and travel to foreign countries. The grand would enable them to take part in mobilities, to impove their language skills and to widen their horizons. Also, our local environment is brilliant for filming – there are many beautiful places - romantic streets of Prague, Vltava islands, interesting views and backgrounds to support our, as well as the international students’ creativity. Our school is responsible for starting our Twinspace of the project eMotion pictures, which has been running since August 2012 and via which we found the most suitable partners for our planned project. During the mobility in Prague we intend to visit Prague film studios, which are walking distance from our school. We will organize a photography, art, and drama workshops for our partners. Preparatory visit was hosted by our school between 24th – 28th January 2013, where we had a chance to discuss the project's goals and detailed plans and topics personally.

Good news - we got the grant!

Preparatory visit (January 24 - 27 2013)

Preparatory meeting of the new international exchange project took place in January 2013 in Prague. Teachers from Spain, Italy and Turkey came to Táborská elementary school in Prague and we have created and completed an application for a grant for the project there.
